Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)

Customized Vision After Cataract Surgery

We are proud to offer the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)—a groundbreaking advancement in cataract surgery—now available at our clinic. The LAL is the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) that can be customized after cataract surgery to fine-tune your vision.
Unlike traditional lenses, which offer a fixed prescription chosen before surgery, the Light Adjustable Lens gives patients the unique opportunity to adjust and optimize their vision during the healing process. This revolutionary lens is made from a special photosensitive material that responds to ultraviolet (UV) light. After the lens has been implanted and your eye has healed, a series of non-invasive UV light treatments—performed in-office—can precisely adjust the lens power to meet your visual needs.

Benefits of the Light Adjustable Lens

  • Custom Vision Correction: Adjust your prescription after healing for optimal sharpness and clarity.

  • Reduced Dependence on Glasses: Many patients enjoy significantly improved vision without glasses, particularly for distance.

  • Personalized Outcomes: Your vision is tailored to your lifestyle and visual goals—after you've experienced how your eyes heal.

What to Expect

Following surgery, you’ll wear UV-protective glasses during all waking hours to shield the lens from unintended UV exposure. These special glasses are provided by your doctor and must be worn until your final light treatment is complete—typically about 4 to 6 weeks.
